   Mondays Chat
Peter is with us again today for the grand finale.
We ask for something in the Irish language perhaps.
Peter notes the Irish language and how some of the
native speakers will talk to only those they see fit.
We also note how Peter won a song challenge in
Ireland, only by ending the tune in the Irish language.
We have noted and sung the following 'anthems' on
past shows:

  A Tipperary anthem - Slievenamon
A Cork anthem- The Banks of My Own Lovely Lee
  N. Ireland Commonwealth: Londonderry Aire (Danny Boy)

Today, this song by James Russell
is a classic Irish- American Tune.
A great example of how to overcome

Connie interprets An Spailpin Fanach in an
impromptu solo performance for us ! You
might recognize that this was the original
tune from whence came The Girl I Left
Behind Me. Despite its lively sound, the
story is a sad one, as you will see when
reading the lyrics on my blog at www.Irishroots.com.
We listen to Connie rehearse few times as
she recalls the language and the melody.
Sort of like being in the back room before
a performance. A brave and generous soul
indeed she is ! I do take full responsibility
for forcing her into this situation unprepared
- and am amazed at her ability to perform
under such an ambush.
We also hear about how her life and career
developed from childhood dreams, and life
as a ranch cook in Wyoming. Connie had
the folks here lined up almost out the door
to try some her Moose and rattlesnake fritters
platters last week....

Breakfast at the Cafe today
Antelope Stew and Rattlesnake Fritters
from Wyoming prepared for us today by
Connie Dover, a sometime 'Ranch Cook'.
( Yet always a tremendous singer, historian
and poet.)
I first heard Connie when she was singing
with Scartaglen back in the 1980's. She
often sings solo, and has studied Celtic
music on both sides of the ocean. Born in
Arkansas, she has 4 albums released and
has made numerous guest appearances on
other labels.
Todays Song
Connie chats a bit about her experience with
Irish and Celtic music. She writes about 1/3
of her own music, and was awarded the title
of grand master at the 2nd annual Song Festival here.
I put her on the spot, with no advance notice.
With a rare confidence she accepts the challenge
to sing a tune in the Irish language that she has
not sung in years. This is a rare talent indeed.
She sings a bit of Siuila Run (Walk My Love) for
us today. Listen to todays broadcast to hear it all.
