Hello Fada, Accent on the Irish Language. #2.
Basic notes and background for the curious.
From the Hedge School at www.Irishroots.com
Today we introduce Renata, your session leader.
Irish Word for the Day: Starts next session
We have free sessions on Genealogy; Song; Travel;
Language and History at the Hedge School here:
Today we meet with Renata after her Irish Language
class at the Irish Roots Cafe.
Renata started studying Irish at the University of Berkeley
in California, and loved it. Then went to the University
College in Dublin, Ireland and earned a post-graduate degree
The Old Ways
She spent time in the Gaeltacht, taking immersion courses
in the Irish language. The Gaeltacht is a place in Ireland
where the Irish language never died. Renata spent the days
at the house of her host, who spoke only Irish, and in the
evenings she took classes, just in the Irish language.
Renata teaches the Irish language in America, and she notes
it is sometimes used as a ‘secret’ language between those
who understand it. She also notes that she has done a lot
of study, but has been away from Ireland for a few years,
and is not a University instructor. She is more than willing
to share what she has learned with us, and that is just perfect
for the Hedge School.
What She’ll Cover
Renata will teach us, perhaps, to count to 10 in Irish, to
sing a simple song, to understand some basic words and
meanings, basic introductions, sounds and the alphabet,
the Ogham stones, funny ways of phrasing things……
She may cover things more in depth after the first few
months of the show, depending on your wants and needs.
The main ingredient is to be interested in learning more,
no matter what point you start from.
Support your Hedge School and Teacher
Renata offers group courses in Irish, and can instruct
one-to-one via phone or computer, on occasion. She can
also do voice overs and translations, on a per job basis.
‘Stór, Irish For Treasure’, is her jewelry business, keep that
in mind when looking for something special.
We also welcome those who would sponsor this podcast and
ensure the continuation of ‘Hello Fada’.
( Note that there is a ‘fada’ or accent mark over the ‘o’ in Stor.)
…….So end the notes from the Irish Hedge Row today.
You can see the entire series at www.Irishroots.com.
Advertisers and sponsors welcome of course !
