Curious News and Notes

1) The Royal Ban on Catholics, that is, it is illegal for heirs to the
throne to marry a Catholic, may be reversed. The law has been in
effect since the 1701 Act of Settlement.  The problem seems to be
that the Queen is also the head of the established Church, the
Church of England.  They say it is a very controversial problem….
Did anyone say ‘separation of Church and State ?”

2) An Irishman named George Karellas of Co. Meath is one of
the 16 finalists for what is being called the best job in the world.
He has been picked from 35,000 applicants, to be the one who
gets to be caretaker of Hamilton Island in Australia, and write
a blog while there.  It is a six month job for 75,000 Euros !

3) The first veterinary hospital in Ireland for cats is set to open
after Easter, in County Cork.  No dogs allowed !  It is the dream
project of Clare Meade age 35, who is building the hospital at
Barnavara Hill in Glanmire.

4) Calling all O’Neills, the O’Neill stronghold at of Castle Hill
in Dungannon, Co. Tyrone, will be opened to the public for the
first time in 400 years !  Sounds like time for a family reunion…
Parklands are included in the renovations..

5)  Hope you stocked up on Beamish Stout if that is your drink,
as it is being removed from all international sales, soon only to
be found in Ireland itself.

6)  Hotels in Dublin and Cork have lowered prices, but Galway hotels
