New Broadcast Series
The 6th broadcast series from the Irish Roots Cafe
has been launched. The thene of this new historical
series is ‘ Lessons from the Irish Hedge Row’.  It is so
named in honor of the Irish Hedge Schools dating back
to the Penal days in Ireland.

Hedge School Tradition
These schools were neither state nor church sponsored,
as both were outlawed for Catholics at the time.  A unique
form of school started up in those harsh times, often by the
sunny side of a hedge row.  The residents of the area
would hire a local scholar or itinerant teacher to teach
the children, in defiance of the authorities.
Your Hosts

have been teaching and presenting Irish History projects
for more than 60 years combined.  O’Laughlin is the worlds most

Both have organized and run tours of Ireland since the 1980’s.
