Irish Rise Up
The first I heard of this group was
in connection with the noted old Irish
Song in America, Where the River Shannon
. It was performed by the Russell
Brothers, of Ulster heritage.

Dressed as Irish Maids
The two brothers had been doing Irish
Maid type skits for decades. Here, the
brothers dressed up as Irish maids and
sang the song with some satire on stage.

Anti-discrimination Group
On this day these actor/singers were pelted
with rotten tomatoes and the like, and their
careers would soon come to a halt. The protest
was supported by:

The Society for the Prevention of Ridiculous and
Pervasive Misrepresentation of the Irish Character
The name of the group sounds like a fine Irish
composition. I am unsure if it was impromptu
or part of a growing movement. It would seem
that the Irish population fully supported it.

Then and Now
This event was dated around 1904. I think we
have overcome the problem in large part, save
for a few celebrations on St. Patricks day..
Somehow, the song became a favorite of the
Irish in years to come… Thank God, we don’t
need to spend our time protesting this song..

Todays Irish Chat & Sing Show
We chat about, and Peter sings, the song online here
