In Person Sessions with Mike
You can have a direct one to one session via Skype with Mike. These beginners sessions are for learning an Irish song, or for family history tips, or both! He also offers a free live streaming video show on ConcertWindow monthly. Mike is ready to teach you to sing a song: in Irish (Gaeilge), sean nós style; or in English for a traditional song. You do not have to speak the Irish language or read music to start singing. Several well known songs are available to learn directly with Mike. Listening, practice, and memorization play a very important role. Where you go from there is limited only by you ! It is a great introduction to the Irish language for many.

Mike is a one of a kind resource. Since 1978, he has authored 12 hardbound books, 34 Irish genealogy county books, 40 CD's/videos, 300 podcasts, 7 broadcast series', and 1,000 articles. O'Laughlin also publishes rare works by 10 authors, including 'The Annals of Ireland by the Four Masters' and 'The Irish Book of Arms' (60 works in all). His web pages have tallied over 100 million visitors.
Irish Sean Nós & traditional singer
Mike reached the national stage in Dublin, Ohio at the largest three day Irish fest on the planet, in 2014. Vocalist with the Irish Roots Cafe house band, he performed in the first all Irish language song stage show in the midwest in 2012, and ranked #1 in the U.S. as a celtic artist on Reverbnation (for nine months). He has the honor of singing Sean Nós (old style) at the annual Gaelic Mass in Kansas City, and currently broadcasts live, streaming song shows on the web.
His songs are found on YouTube, Vimeo, Spotify, and iTunes today. Early influences include Joe Heaney of Galway, Cathy Jordon of Dervish, and Niamh Parsons from whom he has taken instruction. He founded the 'Sean Nós gathering' in Kansas City (2014), with five free events at four locations in the region, along with the band.

Irish Language Supporter
Mike founded and co-hosted the 'Hello Fada' podcast, with curious notes on Irish (gaeilge). He also publishes Irish language works, like 'Tribes and Customs of Hy Many'; and 'Hy Fiachrach'. A noted singer in the Irish, Mike gives basic lessons in Sean Nós song. He has taken beginning Irish language instruction in San Antonio, TX; Dublin, OH; Kansas City, MO; and on the web. O'Laughlin regularly holds Irish (gaeilge) song events including 'Seachtaine na Gaeilge' in the community, and believes 'old style' song is best learned via oral tradition, by ear, in dialects seldom taught today.
Irish Roots
Mike descends from OLoughlin of Kilfenora, County Clare, and ODonahue of Glenflesk, County Kerry, with Sullivan, Buckley, Kilmartin, Llewellyn and Kelliher roots. He began leading Irish tours and began an Irish import catalogue in the 80's. He collected a 3,000 volume Irish library during those years. In 2004 he founded the 'Irish Families' DNA project at Familytreedna.
A garage band drummer in the 1960s, Mike started a printing company in high school. As a Rockhurst University grad in the 70s, he wrote “The Complete Book for Tracing Your Irish Ancestors”, in the 1980's he was a founder of the Irish American Cultural Center in Kansas City and subsequently founded Irishroots.com and the Irish Roots Cafe.
